Demian's Thoughts:

This is the second book written by Edward Packard's daughter (after The Evil Wizard in the Choose Your Own Adventure for Younger Readers series), and it's a decent adventure story featuring all of the staples of the series: ancient mysteries, an adventurous relative, evil smugglers, etc., etc. There's really nothing here that hasn't been done before, but the tale is told pretty well despite its familiarity, with simple but engaging writing and a number of meaningful and interesting choices to make. It's not innovative enough to earn classic status for itself, but it successfully evokes the flavor of earlier books in the series well enough to please fans of those works.

Jordashebasics's Thoughts:

Secret of the Sun God? Or Mystery of the Sun God? Or maybe Temple of the Sun God? People of the Sun God?

Any number of titles would have worked just as well. I'm not sure what the secret is, even after finishing the book.

Yes, this book feels interchangeable with a few others:

Mystery of the Maya.
Secret of the Pyramids.
The Lost Tribe.
Lost on the Amazon.

And so forth. The book has a few things going for it, mostly fairly good writing, and pretty good consistency. The bad part is that everything in this seems way too familiar, like you're reading a re-mixed version of a few other books.

There is one highlight - an ending where you are turned into a cloud. Odd.
