Fireguard's Thoughts:

While none of the paths through the book are particularly deep or even involve many choices with the way it tries to cover as much ground as possible with the premise it uses, it's a decently-written effort to give young readers a chance to live out some popular fantasies. I'll admit I think a lot of the book's wasted on me because being a famous athlete was never really one of my dreams as a kid and most of the book's given over to that. Still a solid entry in the series, though.

I suppose it goes without saying that the most amusing path through the book is the rock star one depicted on the cover. The song titles and attempts at names for pop music figures were funny enough in a nostagically cheesy kind of way (Moonbaby? Cave Boy Boogie? Sheesh!), but the way your band bridges the political gap between the superpowers with their music was just so fun and silly I had to laugh. Strong 7 to a light 8 on this one, slightly higher for those who enjoy 80's nostalgia for the rock star part.

I also find it necessary to point out that if you decide to get into filmmaking, the name of your project ("Final Justice") is in fact the name of a real movie. One made famous by being an object of mockery of Mystery Science Theater 3000. That's pretty awesome too.

Scrumptious's Thoughts:

This is one of those books that is more about immersing in a fantasy rather than making decisions and controlling your fate. The biggest decision is the first one, what do you want to do with your life? Want to be a tennis star? You'll be treated to pages upon pages of text describing your tennis career. No choices, just instant success. Same with being a track star. If you want to be a skier or baseball player, your entire career/reputation will come down to a single choice, so choose wisely! If you daydream of grandeur but are too lazy to fill in the details for yourself, this is the book for you. If you read these books to make choices and influence the story, this one will disappoint you.

yunakitty's Thoughts:

This is an interesting book - of note is that at the first fork in the story, there are SEVEN choices! It's a little dated, of course, but great for any lovers of the eighties.

This book is personally interesting to me because the boy on the front looks EXACTLY my husband did in the 8th grade - which was in 1989, the year this was published! Did the cover artist use his yearbook photo as a model?? We'll never know...
